The Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association was founded in 1976. We are a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides emergency ambulance service to the Town of Suffield and surrounding towns. Our Mission Our mission at the SVAA is, first and foremost, to provide life saving treatment and transportation of the ill and injured to the appropriate hospitals. In addition, we provide comfort to friends and family of the sick and/or injured, educate our community members in matters relating to medical emergencies, and medical support to our public safety partners in the community and region. Our Volunteers The SVAA averages 90 active volunteer members - people from Suffield and surrounding towns. They are homemakers, students, retirees and business owners, representing all age groups. They contribute over 20,000 hours as medical providers on the ambulance. In addition, they contribute many more hours for training and administrative roles. Each medical provider passes certification tests at the State level after several months of training. Providers maintain and advance their certification through frequent training classes and drills throughout the year. Volunteer medical providers save our community medically and financially, providing over 2,500 hours a month for duty shifts. |
